BA3a❀Quill❀Week 9

11:23

This week consisted on more work on UI. I began working on a menu design.

This layout was inspired by mobile games such as Love Live and Ensemble Stars where the player is able to change the background and the character that appears on their homepage.
The below screenshot shows the function in Ensemble Stars by Happy Elements.

The idea is that by tapping the homepage character, the player will be talked to (either in text or by voice lines).

Although I was not scheduled to do anything other than UI in this week, I began to struggle after creating the menu UI, and began working on my next weapon design early, so that I could go back to the UI later. I wanted this weapon to be for the new character I was intending to do the next week, and I wanted their design to match the weapon; I decided on the theme of 'day' for this character.

I began by silhouetting out ideas for the weapon. I experimented with gear shapes, thinking they almost looked like a sun's rays when exaggerated.

The more I iterated, the more I was liking the idea of the staff looking like the Caduceus of Greek myth; it features two snakes wrapped around a staff with wings. It belonged to Hermes, who was often written to be the protector of travellers, and also guided souls to the Underworld. At this point I liked the idea of a deity character and wanted to parallel Hermes to some extent, though not completely; as Quill and Rae were to be characters in the story, I thought it would be interesting to have a healing or defensive deity in their party.  I took the design I liked most and began to iterate further with this concept in mind.
