In order to prepare for the presentation in which I would get feedback, I created a logo for the game to use in presentations and on character illustrations and the like as a tie-in to make sure that all aspects of the work would be presented neatly.
I started off by experimenting with typefaces and the position of the quill pen (which I wanted to use in the UI as well as the logo) before making a clean copy that was visible on both light and dark backgrounds.

According to the timetable proposed in my presentation, I would be working on UI for the next two weeks. My first move was to create the bubbles I would use for the gameplay, as I wanted to create icons to go with the four attributes I had decided to use earlier, which were Dawn, Day, Dusk and Night. These attribute bubbles would also be used to describe characters' attributes so the player could build a varied team.
I first doodled some simple icons in a decided colour for each attribute.
After this, I drew the ones I liked most up neatly.
The Dawn attribute icon is meant to represent a sun (the half-circle) rising above the ground (the horizontal line). It is displayed in a bright green, similar to that of the character I designed to represent this attribute's colour scheme, to represent fresh new starts.
The icon for the Day attribute represents a sun, with the smaller dots representing rays of light. I picked different shades of blue for this attribute to represent the blue sky as well as calmness and clarity.
The Dusk attribute is displayed in a pink-orange colour to represent the sky when the sun sets. The icon displays a sun (the partial circle) setting over the ocean, with its light reflecting in the water (the three lines).
Night is represented by a simple crescent moon in a deep and mysterious purple to represent the night time. I chose purple over blue or black as I thought blue would make it difficult to distinguish from the Day icon and black would be too harsh in comparison to the other colours.
I made a simple grid with a paper texture to use as the game 'board' as such and added a set of icons within it to show how the main portion of the game would be presented.
The black pen line represents where the player would drag to select a string of matching bubbles, and I added a slight washout effect on the selected bubbles in order to distinguish them from the unselected ones. Along with the 'pen' line that would be created by the player's finger on the touchscreen, I added a slight sparkle effect using Clip Studio Paint brushes and Add layer effects on a low opacity in order to give the impression of the quill pen possessed by the protagonist (represented in-game by the user's input) being magic.
