BA1A ★ Life Drawing
02:08Life Drawing: 1
This was my first scheduled life drawing session. I hadn't had a lot of experience with life drawing before, so it was quite a challenge, particularly to complete the timed drawings within the allotted times. However, I found myself improving as the class went on, and I felt more confident drawing human figures by the end of the class.
I used charcoal for my first drawing and the timed pieces, and pencil for the third drawing, which took the longest amount of time.
Life Drawing: 2
In my second life drawing session, a similar exercise to the first session was used, where we had to draw the figure within a set time. However, we also had to add shading. I feel that my timed drawings had improved a lot since the first session and I was able to finish all of them in time, although I did have some issues with the scale of my figures.
Afterwards, we used grey paper and a combination of chalk and graphite to look at light and shadow on the figure. The image on the left shows a piece done in only chalk, creating the figure out of a series of marks where the light fell on the body. The other image began with a similar process but I also added shadows with graphite.
I found this session very interesting, and it helped me to understand how light affects the figure. It also introduced me to a new way of working, which I enjoyed.
