12:10PART 2: Iteration and colour
Using the silhouette I had picked out earlier, I began to look at different ways I could arrange the limbs and design the tail and antennae that would stick within the general silhouette. I came up with multiple iterations of designs for this silhouette, combining different aspects, before deciding on the one that I liked the most. When deciding on lines, I found myself paying close attention to the position of the insect's body segments and joints.
I chose the top left design and painted a simple clean copy of the insect over the initial iteration sketches to use on the character sheet.
I also experimented with colour iterations. While testing colours, I thought about what kind of environments the insect would live in and which colours would be beneficial to it, so some colour iterations involve earthy greens and browns and mottled colours to help it blend in with a forest area. However, I did experiment with some other, more unique colour combinations, although I felt the greens suited it more.
